Liebster Blog Award

A big thank you to my fellow blogger laughingpromises for nominating me for the Liebster Blog Award!  This is an award for bloggers with less than 200 followers and is designed to recognize small-time bloggers and encourage them to keep up the good work 🙂  It’s been fun to connect with others who blog about birth and parenting, and I’m honored that laughingpromises would think of me for this award!  I’m enjoying reading the story of her first pregnancy and am thankful for her support and encouragement as I journey through mine.

The Liebster Blog Award rules are:

1) Answer the 11 questions written by your nominator.
2) Nominate 11 other bloggers who have less than 200 followers.
3) Write 11 of your own questions for each nominee to answer.

Here are the questions I’m answering:

1. If you could move anywhere in the world, where would you go, and why?

I would probably relocate myself to either the Pacific Northwest (love the Puget Sound area and the Olympic National Forest!) or somewhere in Europe.  I have lived in both of these places for shorter periods of time and loved both experiences for different reasons.  I spent 2 summers on the Puget Sound while I was studying biology, and I still think it’s one of the most beautiful areas in the world (Hawaii might challenge that).  We are trying to convince my husband’s family to move to the Seattle area with us, but it’s slow going.  🙂  I also lived in Poland for nearly a year and was able to travel to different parts of Europe with my sister.  I’d love to return there with my husband and children just to experience a different way of life for a couple of years.
2. Your husband is gone and you have the whole house to yourself.  What do you do?

I talk to myself, lol!  Just kidding (kinda).  This is actually pretty easy to answer because it’s now been two and a half months since I quit working outside the home, so I spend a lot of time here by myself.  I usually sleep late, eat all my meals in front of the TV or computer, make lists and schedules for myself, play music, and get a lot done without my wonderful man around to distract me 😉
3. Hair: Short or long?

I’ve gone both ways, and am currently liking short. In high school my hair was waist-length, but such a pain to care for!  I really love it about shoulder length with lots of layering so I get some shape and movement.  I really don’t style my hair a lot (I’m COMPLETELY wash and wear), so I need it to look interesting/decent without me doing a thing!  What frustrates me is when hair stylists seem reluctant to cut it as short as I want.  They try to tell me that it will be shorter when it dries and curls up even though I know that it won’t really make as much of a difference as they think- Grrr!
4. Daily Hair: Up or down?

Both!  I perpetually have a hair elastic around my wrist so I can put my hair up at a moment’s notice!  As soon as it feels too hot on my neck or even a little bit in the way- up it goes!  I don’t usually leave it up all day, though, because it can make my head and neck hurt.

5. What kind of music do you most listen to?

Hmmm, not sure what category my favorite music even fits into, but my 3 favorite Pandora stations I’ve created play contemporary Christian, French music from artists like Carla Bruni, or Nora Jones-type music.

6. If you had all the money in the world, would you buy a new house or a historic house to remodel?

Oooo, I’d buy a historic house to remodel!  When we eventually find and buy our dream house in the next couple of years, it will be something in horrible condition that needs to be completely torn out and redone!  It would also be fun to build our own house, and we’ve talked about doing that, but right now I want to do the before and after thing 🙂

7. Beach or mountains?

Can’t I have both?  I guess I’d choose mountains, but a mountain side on a rocky beach is the best, in my opinion.  That’s one of the reasons I love the Pacific Northwest so much- those two things are in such close proximity!

8. Pedicure or manicure?

If it’s just a regular manicure, I’d choose the pedicure because it will last longer (I use my nails too much).  I do, however, love having those nail tips put on that keep my nails looking perfect for weeks!  I know they destroy my nails though 😦

9. You have $5 in your wallet.  What would you typically spend it on?

Probably some organizing bin or some craft or decorating item 😛  Anything that I think will be really useful or help transform my space in an important way is something I’m going to spend that spare $$ on!

10. Guilty pleasure?

Hmmm, probably brainless TV shows like Modern Family or Cougar Town.  You know, the very non-kid friendly ones that I’m probably going to have to quit watching soon….  Chocolate is another guilty pleasure.  Magnesium supplements helped a lot, but I still get cravings for these dark chocolate-covered cashews sometimes…. and chocolate ice cream…. and those Rice Dream mint chocolate pies…..  Mmmmm!

11. What’s the best thing about where you live?

Well, even though Metro Detroit is not the most wonderful place in the world (or a place I EVER thought I’d be living), we’re very close to family, shopping is so convenient, we can drive just a few hours and go snowboarding for the weekend, there are plenty of jobs around for my husband, we have a wonderful church here, and some beautiful countryside is just a few miles away.  Not so bad 🙂

Alright, now for the bloggers I’d like to nominate.  For some of them, I have been reading their blogs for a few months now, and others I have only just discovered, but the commonality is that they all blog about birth and/or parenting, and I have seen something in their writing that inspires and delights me.  The nominations are:
